The Czech partner project
For centuries, the Golden Road was one of the most important trade routes and communication channels in central Europe. Whereas most stretches of the route between Nuremberg and Prague are barely visible now, parts of the original tracks can still be found in the borderland around Tachov today. This is the single positive consequence of the Iron Curtain that had prevented development along the border.
An essential element of the Czech partner project is now the documentation of this stretch of the mediaeval route between Bärnau and Tachov. This project is due to be realised in three phases:
1) Identification of the original route of the Golden Road between Bärnau and Tachov.
2) Archaeological research in selected sections.
3) Development of the historical park “Golden Road” in the open landscape with info points, three-dimensional exhibitions, historical signposts, milestones and stone objects.
With this, the visitors will be able to follow the original track of the Golden Road from the Geschichtspark Bärnau to the Czech town Tachov.
